Background Analysis

Metro Transit bus service has shifted from Bryant Avenue South to Lyndale Avenue South.  New bus stops were constructed and bus service began in 2022 in coordination with the City's Bryant Avenue South paving project.  In order to provide faster and more reliable bus service, Metro Transit and the City have partnered to install transit signal priority (TSP) equipment at up to ten intersections.  TSP allows buses a greater opportunity to travel through a traffic signal on a green light or can reduce the wait time at a red light.  Metro Transit will purchase the TSP kits, then the City will install and program the equipment.  The TSP will be operational in early 2024.  Upon completion of the work, Metro Transit will reimburse the City an estimated $30,500 for the labor cost of performing the installations.
