Background Analysis
On or about September 22, 2021, workers from Minneapolis Public Works exchanged a water meter at the HCMC Red Building. During that work water escaped the utility room and damaged drywall in several adjacent hallways. Hennepin Healthcare, Inc. brought a claim to reimburse it for its costs associated with repairing the damaged hallway drywall and other expenses associated with the flooding. The City has denied liability for all claims. After trading of information and inspection of the site by a City appraiser, the City and Hennepin Healthcare engaged in settlement negotiations. The parties were able to negotiate a settlement of Hennepin Healthcare's claims by payment of $61,523.00 from FUND/ORG 16940-1500100-145690 in exchange for a complete release of all claims that it might have related to the flooding. The City Attorney's Office recommends approval of this settlement as it is the best interests of the City of Minneapolis.
