Background Analysis

Somali - American Day Fest is a cultural festival held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, featuring arts, music, food, and heritage to showcase the Somali American community.   

Street closure requests include:

  • Lake St between Blaisdell Ave S and Stevens Ave S

The attached map shows these street closures. Road closure times are approximate and subject to change due to various constraints, including contractor availability and the complexity of setup. Setup efforts will result in roadway closures from:

  • Saturday, June 28th, 2025, between 9:30 am and 10:30 pm 

Numerous stakeholders have been involved with the planning and review of Somali-American Day Fest. Minneapolis Police, Regulatory Services, Metro Transit, and Public Works have been involved in various event parameters. 

This event is subject to all other ordinance requirements including, but not limited to:

  • Conducting outreach and notification to impacted properties
  • Obtaining additional insurance coverage as requested
  • Obtaining additional permits as needed for food, beverage, amplified sound, etc.
  • Installing the required barricades, signage, and other materials for lane closures
  • Hiring the required number of law enforcement officers for traffic control
  • Proper cleanup after the event.
