Background Analysis
The following are Council appointments and reappointments for Council approval:
Abdullahi Isse is a current MPHA Board member seeking a new term. Mr. Isse is a resident of public housing in family non-high rise. He has been in management positions for the last 20 years and is a board member of an organization in Somali community.
Tessa Wetjen has experience working with organizations that support people and families in poverty, Minneapolis Public Schools, the Minnesota Department of Health and community-based nonprofits. Ms. Wetjen has served on the City's Neighborhood Community Engagement Commission. Ms. Wetjen's appointment is for a one-year term in order to comply with MPHA by-laws. The previous Board member appointed to this seat was initially appointed to compete another Board member's term with only one year remaining, but was inadvertently appointed to a three-year term. At the end of this one-year term, Ms. Wetjen may seek City Council appointment to a new three-year term.
The following are Mayoral appointments and reappointments for Council confirmation:
Mikkel Beckmen is a current MPHA Board member seeking a new term. Mr. Beckmen has extensive professional experience in developing and implementing activities to prevent and end homelessness in Minneapolis.
Tamir Ali Mohamud is a current MPHA Board member seeking a new term. Mr. Mohamud is a resident of public housing high rise and has served in various positions on his resident council and the Minneapolis High Rise Representative Council.
Sharmarke Issa Mr. Issa grew up in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis and currently operates his small business in the 10th Ward. He has a Master's in Urban Planning degree. Mr. Sharmarke's appointment by the Mayor is for Seat 4 and MPHA Board Chair.
