Background Analysis
Special Service District advisory board members are appointed by the City Council. Board members may seek reappointment after their term has expired. Special Service District advisory boards are comprised of commercial property owners or their representatives (property manager or commercial tenant) who are located within the district and are incurring the district’s service charges via their property tax statements. The role of the Advisory Board is to advise the City in the following areas:
- Work with district property and business owners to identify desired services.
- Participate in developing an annual work plan and budget recommendation.
- Recommend a service charge assessment methodology for prorating the proposed annual budget among commercial properties.
- Help monitor service delivery throughout the year to ensure services are meeting expectations of property owners.
- Communicate with district property and business owners to share information on the District’s activities and respond to inquiries.
All the persons listed meet the requirements for board membership, which includes being a commercial property owner within their respective district or their representative. Staff will continue to work with the advisory boards, district property owners, and the City Council to identify and recruit qualified candidates for any remaining board vacancies.
