Background Analysis

Target Center’s current Point of Sale system was installed in 2013 and is no longer supported by the manufacturer. It has experienced concerning issues and failures in the past several years. In addition, replacement hardware has become difficult to procure.

An RFP was issued for a POS partner to design, install and support a new system under Event #1146 in June 2020. Seven proposals were received, and two providers were invited to present their solutions and support plans based on the scoring of the proposals on criteria presented in the RFP. A panel of representatives from the City of Minneapolis, ASM Global, Levy Restaurants and the Timberwolves/Lynx evaluated the proposals and presentations. VenueNext was recommended as the Target Center Point of Sale partner by the panel.

The new VenueNext system will be cloud based with full integration to the mobile app, venue ticketing system, and digital menu systems already in use. The new system will offer many upgraded capabilities that likely will become more in demand in the post COVID-19 environment including:

  • Multiple payment options including contactless payment
  • Flexible staffed and kiosk (unstaffed) transactions with the same equipment
  • Mobile device ordering and payment for concession stand and in seat transactions
  • Customer loyalty discounts and promotions
  • Uninterrupted offline service when connectivity is lost
  • Improved data tracking and reporting
