Background Analysis

Public Works Fleet Services has been presented the opportunity to receive used Metro Mobility buses from Metro Transit and two standard size passenger vans from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Various City departments often contact Fleet Services to request a van or similar vehicle to transport people. The vehicles would be available for use by all City departments to meet peek demands. Some of the needs include: transporting employees to training classes, tours for new employees, transporting citizens picking their vehicles at the Impound Lot, transporting Step-Up students and Urban Scholars to various events to name a few. Fleet Services does not currently have any small buses or standard passenger vans in the Fleet. Currently vans are rented as needed. The addition of these vehicles would address the need for this size vehicle and eliminate the associated rental fees. The Minnesota DNR vans are two 2009 Ford E-350's and the Metro Transit buses are a 2008 Chevrolet 500, 2014 Chevrolet 400, and a Chevrolet 400.
