Background Analysis

The Minneapolis Health Department seeks Council acceptance of a Minnesota Department of Health Grant in the amount of $413,153 for a three-year period beginning May 1, 2021 thru April 30,2023. The goal is to Reduce opioid abuse and misuse among children and youth 12-19 years old within communities of color. 100 youth will participate in prevention programming per year. Fifty parents/guardians will participate in programming to support their children.

500 community members will receive information about supporting youth in the community. Internal activities will include:

• Hire Public Health Specialist I (.25FTE) for the Minneapolis Health Department

• Hire Community Navigator (.5 FTE) for Metro Youth Diversion (MYD)

• Hire Community Outreach Specialist (.5 FTE) for Metro Youth Diversion

Our office will develop and implement a Request for Proposals process to secure 2-3 additional community partners. We will also provide technical assistance to MYD for their program development and implementation. The Health Department will work with new community partners to secure and implement youth, prevention focused, programming. The Health Department will also, work with all partners and community to ensure effective, coordinated youth prevention programming.
