The geography impacted most by the demolition and property management is the circular area approximately 1/4-mile from the property. The racial demographics of the residents within this area are approximately 49% African American or Black, 24% White/Not Hispanic, 23% Hispanic or Latinx, and 5% All other categories/More than one race.

The demographics of the geography in the rectangular area approximately 1/2-mile to the north, 1/2-mile to the south, 1/2-mile to the east, and 1/2-mile to the west are approximately 35% White/Not Hispanic, 30% African American or Black, 27% Hispanic or Latinx, and 8% All other categories/More than one race.

CPED does not have data available at this time that relates directly to how residents of the area relate to the demolition of the vacant building at 30 W Lake St or property management of the two properties. The City does receive resident complaints about the upkeep of the building, and staff believe that demolishing the building will improve site security and general appearance.

Section 4: Analysis

This action provides funding for the demolition of a vacant building and continued property management of City-owned parcels. Redevelopment of the site after demolition will provide many different types of opportunities for the City to help achieve racial equity.

Section 5: Evaluation

Impacts from the demolition and continued property management will be measured by receiving fewer resident complaints about property upkeep.

Those impacted by the demolition and continued property management will be informed of progress on the City's website and through the related GovDelivery listserv.
