Background Analysis
Public Works will reconstruct 1.4 miles of Hennepin Avenue South between Douglas Avenue and West Lake Street. The scope of work will include full reconstruction of Hennepin Avenue South due to the age and deteriorated condition of the street, will improve pedestrian safety, fill a bicycle network gap, include space for transit priority lanes, and incorporate green stormwater infrastructure improvements.
Xcel Energy Agreement
As part of the Hennepin Ave reconstruction project, the City will install new Xcel Energy conduits within the Hennepin Ave Bridge over the Midtown Greenway (Bridge No 27599). Xcel Energy will reimburse the City for all costs associated with the planning, design, materials, and installation of Xcel Energy facilities. The current estimated amount is $39,000. Construction is anticipated to start in 2024.
