Background Analysis

At the end of 2022, MPD amended its contract with Axon for body cameras and data storage in evidence.com. The amendment reduced the total number of body cameras and associated evidence.com licenses by 240. This reduction in body cameras and licenses corresponded with a reduction in MPD staffing. While MPD reduced its cost for the body cameras, an unintended consequence was the loss of the licenses.

Evidence.com is used to store all body cameras videos, photos, and other selected audio and video. It also houses all of MPD’s squad video. MPD no longer has a surplus of evidence.com licenses to provide access to its staff. As a result, MPD is now requesting the purchase of additional 165 evidence.com licenses to accommodate the recent hiring of new MPD officers.
