Background Analysis
The Hartford Financial Services Group is awarding the Minneapolis Fire Department a $5,000 fire safety grant for fire prevention education purposes. There is no city match requirement.
This grant will be used to purchase smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for the deaf and hearing impaired. We give away free smoke and CO detectors to hearing citizens but have never had alarms to accommodate the hearing impaired. We will purchase two different models, one with a Candela strobe light and another model that combines the strobe lights with a bed shaker to shake you from your sleep. These alarms would be free to those who request them.
